課程大綱 Course syllabus

本課程教學大綱已提供完整英文資訊(本選項僅供統計使用,未提供完整英文資訊者,得免勾記)【Provide information of course syllabus in English.(This is for statistical use only. For those who do not provide information of course syllabus in English, do not check this field.)】

This course is “practical-oriented”, and will discuss business platform related concepts, such as network effect, platform design, initiating strategy, expansion strategy, and the internal/external governance mechanism. Although no academic paper reading involves in this course, students still have to be familiar these concepts in layman term. Hence, students have better possess the basic concepts of strategy management, marketing management, and technology and innovation management.
An elective course means students have choices. This is a demanding course. Students will be requested to complete weekly assignment, preview the teaching materials, and carry out group term project. Hence, this course is NOT suitable for students looking for sweet grade and easy credit.
This course also WELCOMES UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS who want to challenge themselves with advanced business concepts.
Course structure is available at https://bit.ly/3YNOHhk

課程目標 Objectives

After finishing this course, students are expected to understand what business platform is, how platform thinking differ with conventional value-created thinking, and the common strategy for platform participants.

授課方式 Teaching methods

         【這門課是硬課,而且分數不甜,每週要預習交作業,上課需回答問題,如果你想洗學分或是衝高GPA,請你最好不要選,以免大家不開心】

This course will adopt a blending design. In a normal setting, the weekly class will be separated into two parts. Students will be separated into different groups and make a 20-minute presentation on the designated book chapters. Then, the instructor will guide students to discuss the weekly case.
The selected teaching cases are ‘analytical’ cases. Students must read them BEFORE class and contribute their idea in the class.
As a practical-oriented course, students do NOT need to read theoretical papers. Instead, students must read book chapters of popular science books.
At the end of the semester, each student group has to choose a platform-related business or service and make their own group report and present this report in both oral and written forms.
Students are expected to spend 2 to 3 hours OUTSIDE the lecture hours preparing class material and completing weekly assignments. Moreover, this course uses Harvard Business School teaching cases as teaching material, which will cost around NT$1,000. Additionally, two popular science books are selected as compulsory reading and cost around NT$800.
For these reasons, students are highly recommended to think twice BEFORE selecting this course.
The below grading policy is for reference ONLY. The real grading policy will be determined in the 1st lecture.
Last but not least, this course is very demanding. Please do NOT select this course if you are unwilling to spend extra study hours or just want sweet credits...
