Economics II applies basic economic theory and methods to business and administrative decision-making to achieve the goals and objectives of organizations in a rational way. The course emphasizes key economic and business concepts that influence business decisions, such as demand and supply, cost, profit, elasticity, entrepreneurship, and institutions. Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to apply appropriate methods when addressing economic problems that affect profit-seeking firms. You are encouraged to read relevant articles in newspapers and magazines such as The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, and The Economist as well as relevant indices such as the Ease of Doing Business Index of the World Bank and the Corruption Perceptions Index of Transparency International. Reading such publications not only helps you keep up with current business-related issues but also improves your understanding of the topics covered in this course and offers you the opportunity to see how what you learn in this course can be applied to key issues in the economy.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Understand the formation of consumer preferences and their impact on demand 2. Understand the analysis of production efficiency, different types of costs, and the make-or-buy decision. 3. Identify static or dynamic market structures and their impacts on entrepreneurship and firm behaviour. 4. Analyze pricing, including the pricing of multi-attribute goods and price discrimination. 5. Analyze the effects of formal and informal institutions and their effects on firms’ costs, opportunities, and competitiveness. 6. Understand the processes that give rise to international trade.
