This course is designed to generate awareness and appreciation of the way many substantive topics have been studied using various research methodologies. This is a state-of-the-art course in business research. It attempts to impart a basic understanding of the various research techniques currently employed by major corporations as well as small and medium enterprises. The exposition of these techniques will be offered along two dimensions: theoretical and practical. While this is a course in research methods, the problem contexts used to illustrate the various concepts will be managerial. The course has a strong applied and managerial orientation that is relevant to the current management environment. In discussing the research techniques, the emphasis will be on applied aspects unique to the data and not on methodological elegancies. Ultimately, this class aims to help students appreciate and critique on-going research in recent trend topics and in turn to prepare students to write quality papers in accordance with the major streams.
