Course Format: The course will consist of a combination of lectures and interactive discussions. Lectures will provide foundational knowledge and present case studies to illustrate concepts. Discussions will encourage students to engage with the material, share their perspectives, and critically analyze the application of Lacanian psychoanalysis to contemporary issues. Assessment: Participation and Engagement: Active participation in discussions and engagement with course material. Quizzes and Assignments: Periodic quizzes and assignments to assess understanding of key concepts and readings. Final Project/Paper: A final project or paper that applies Lacanian psychoanalysis to a chosen contemporary cultural/political issue. Course Assignments and Expectations: 1. Critical Reading Responses: Throughout the course, you will be required to submit critical reading responses. These responses should be typed and limited to one paragraph in length. They are due at the end of the class period during which we have discussed a specific literary work or topic. These responses should showcase your thoughtful engagement with the material and your ability to analyze and reflect upon the readings. 2. Class Participation: Active class participation is essential for a dynamic and enriching learning experience. Your class participation grade will be based on your contributions to discussions, which may include sharing insights from your critical reading responses. Engaging in constructive dialogue and exchanging ideas with your peers will contribute to a vibrant classroom environment. 3. Oral Reports: During the course, you will have the opportunity to present oral reports. These reports may focus on critical essays, assigned topics, or the results of your research project. The oral reports allow you to develop your presentation skills, share your understanding of the subject matter, and receive feedback from your peers and the instructor. 4. You are required to complete two research projects focusing on psychic structure and cultural-political issues, each consisting of a minimum of 1000 words and following the MLA format. The topics for these papers will be mutually agreed upon with the instructor. Academic Integrity: Academic integrity is of utmost importance in this course. Plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional, is a serious offense with grave consequences.
