課程大綱 Course syllabus

The first half semester will cover materials of Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, and the rest of the semester will focus on Analytic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. The detailed
schedule and lecture contents can be found below. Each area is lectured for about four weeks.
Physical Chemistry: Thermochemistry, Chemical Thermodynamics, Atomic Structure and Spectroscopy
Inorganic Chemistry: Bonding Concepts, Intermolecular Forces
Analytical Chemistry: Chemical Equilibrium (quick introduction), Activity and Systematic Treatment of Equilibrium, Monoprotic Acid-Base Equilibria (quick introduction), Polyprotic Acid-Base Equilibria, Acid-Base Titration
Organic Chemistry: Structure and bonding, Acids and Bases, Nature of Organic Molecules

課程目標 Objectives

The course of General Chemistry is designed for chemistry-major first-year students
in the fall semester. The course aims to bridge knowledge of chemistry between what
students already learnt in their high-school studies and special topics students will take
in their later undergraduate studies. Students are expected to learn fundamental ideas
and concepts of four major research areas in Chemistry from Analytic Chemistry,
Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry to Physical Chemistry.
