In order to survive in today’s fiercely competitive business environment, companies need to manage effectively the entire set of activities involved in the production and delivery of goods and services to their customers. In particular, post-pandemic impacts, broken chains, supply chain resilience, globalization trends, increased demand for product variety, frequent changes in fashion and technology, high customer expectations, and the rapid development of e-commerce add major complexity to an already challenging task. Recognizing that the logistics and distribution processes often transcend corporate and even national borders, it is necessary to break down the boundaries that have traditionally segregated supply chain participants from one another. Therefore, effective supply chain management should focus on the links between chain participants (e.g., suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers). Inefficient (or absence of) coordination between supply chain partners may lead to disastrous consequences for the whole supply chain. Supply chain management is currently a “hot” topic in the corporate world and at major universities. By its nature, it is relevant to managers in a wide variety of organizational functions. Because of the course’s managerial focus, it is well suited to EMBA students with an interest in global or local supply chain management.
