In recent years, information technology (IT) along with big data analysis has been widely applied in a variety of domains such as finance, healthcare and public affairs. Among the technology, text mining has been employed to facilitate the decision-making problems in these domains. Text mining is to uncover potentially novel and useful knowledge hidden in a number of textual documents, and to establish diverse prediction and recommendation models. In the past, the main application fields of text mining include document classification, clustering analysis, concept extraction and recommendation systems. The objective of this project is therefore to support cross-domain decision-making issues by making use of such ITs as text mining, information retrieval and decision analysis. Good application examples in this project include incorporating in-time financial news to develop enterprise financial risk prediction models, extracting essential information from electronic health records (EHRs) to assist design principal setups and enhance the fit between healthcare professional users and the clinical decision support systems, or analyzing responsive reviews from various sources of social media on corporate branding to suggest its strategic deployment or tactical revisions.

Participating students will gain hands-on experiences in exploring such ITs as text mining, providing feasible solutions, and developing appropriate decision support systems.

Internship: The required or elective courses should include credits and learning hours. Students should participate in the corporative company or institution to practice and learn the real skills.
