As businesses and economies become globally intertwined, companies and individuals need to examine their basic business practices and beliefs within the cross-cultural, cross-national context. In this course, participants will develop the ability to think strategically and to analyze the organizational and environmental factors essential for crafting and executing a firm’s strategy for sustained success in a multi-cultural environment. The course draws heavily from the key concepts, frameworks, and tools of strategic management, a sub-field in business administration. It aims to accomplish three purposes: 1. Taking an action orientation, the course reinforces and revitalizes the general management perspective. Because of an ever-shifting business environment and competitive landscape, it emphasizes the dynamic aspects of strategic management. 2. It helps participants (a) develop a deep understanding of the strategic concepts and business models underlying Eastern and Western business, based on a thorough knowledge of cultural and institutional differences, and (b) comprehend the implications of these differences for enterprise management in general. (In this course, China and the United States will be used to represent Eastern and Western paradigms, respectively.) 3. It enables participants to use East-West, or “globalocal,” understanding to think broadly about international enterprise and future enterprise development. In the process, participants will develop a globally integrative perspective for conducting business and executing a local strategy in any part of the world.
課程目標 Objectives
1. Foster an action-oriented strategic-thinking perspective. 2. Hone participants’ ability to analyze strategic issues central to sustained success, and strengthen understanding of the factors relevant to strategy development and execution. 3. Understand how cultural differences underlie important dissimilarities in enterprise strategy and competitive style, as well as in business communication and interaction. 4. Stimulate global, “integrative” thinking to gain a new perspective in a rapidly changing and interconnected business world. 5. Learn how to distill and adopt useful ideas and practices from different parts of the world to create cross-context advantages. 6. Develop perspectives and skills participants need to work successfully in any company, organization, or country—and throughout their careers and lives.
