課程目標 Objectives

The course objective is to provide an in-depth and applied (real-world) introduction to European countries, European markets, the European economic integration process, and the European Union. It gives students the necessary background of the relevant historical roots and evolution; information on the diverse country/market characteristics; and an understanding of real-world implications with respect to economic and business decisions for European and non-European firms, investors, and managers that do business in various European markets.
Furthermore, the course will contextualise what Europe signifies as a Continent. It will also discuss why military conflicts of the 20th Century shaped modern Europe, and how institutional mechanisms guaranteed peace and growth in the region. How the EU project managed to territorially expand after the end of the Cold War, and to what extent, this new European identity construct could survive (or not) when member states face nationalistic/populist internal political tensions. To conclude, by focusing on world-renowned products from EU member states, we’ll explore if some states could better promote these products - in established as well as emerging markets outside Europe.
