This course provides an introduction to microeconomics. Microeconomics is the branch of economics that deals with the decision making of individuals and firms. The main goal of this course is to provide students with the tools and basic understanding of microeconomic principles necessary to analyze economic phenomenon and economic policy decisions in real world situations. Topics will include, but are not limit to, the concept of scarcity, opportunity cost, gains from trade, supply and demand, elasticities, tax policies, externalities, costs, profits and various models of competition.
課程目標 Objectives
Students should be able to answer the following questions after finishing this course: 1. Describe the core ideas that economists use in understanding the world. 2. Explain how a market economy functions. 3. Describe how an economy solves the fundamental problem of scarcity. 4. Analyze economic events, both at the level of individual markets and that of the economy as a whole, using the basic tools of economics. 5. Evaluate the effect of changes in market conditions on outcomes in the market. 6. Describe both the advantages of markets and the meaning of and circumstances underwhich markets fail.
