This course examines how people think, feel and behave at work.
This course will help students develop detailed knowledge of a range of topic areas relating to Work Psychology. In addition to there being a strong integration of recent research evidence and theory in the unit, students will be encouraged to reflect on how this knowledge may be applied by managers within organizations. Throughout the course, students will develop skills in interpreting work-related problems and issues analyzing how organizations and employees can benefit from understanding some of the core principles of work psychology. The assessment will encourage students to discuss the application of Work Psychology theory and research evidence to the workplace.

Course Instructor: Dr. David McConville.
David has a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology, from the UK. He is currently a tenure track Associate Professor in the Institute of HRM at NSYSU. David's work has been published in applied psychology, HRM and management SSCI journals, including the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology and the International Journal of Human Resource Management.

課程目標 Objectives

         Aims:
(1) To extend and enhance students’ understanding of management, people, and organizations, through detailed composition and evaluation of a broad range of Work Psychology topics;
(2) To develop students’ analytical capabilities and understanding of how Work Psychology research evidence and theory can be applied (and be of benefit) to an organization and its employees;
(3) To provide an opportunity for students to develop an analytical mind, enhance their abilities to self-manage, self-organize, ask questions, and to engage in writing with business purposes in mind, thereby enhancing employability;
(4) On successful completion of this unit, students should be able, at threshold level, to effectively analyse and discuss Work Psychology from a range of critical theoretical perspectives and explain their importance to the successful functioning of a business.







授課方式 Teaching methods

         Throughout the academic year, formative assessment will take place through group work, discussion and reflection. Students will receive feedback from classmates and the course instructor on their ideas/contributions/arguments and understanding. Criteria will be provided to help students understand what is expected of them and how they will be assessed on their performance. Students are required to demonstrate self-reflection and reflective practice where appropriate.
