Quantifying social phenomena involves the applications of statistical and numerical data, even for those seemingly trivial, to build knowledge in a non-arbitrary way. Such knowledge assists policy makers who need to objectively consider public affairs in phenomenon prediction and policy evaluation. This course goes through concepts and misconceptions of quantification, pre-analysis preparations (measurement and constructs, sampling survey, and data collection design), analysis methods and demonstration in Excel/SPSS/AMOS (statistical inference, multivariate analysis, and structural equation modeling), and explanation of analysis results and interpretation of implications for quantitative research writing.
課程目標 Objectives
This course has the following objectives in three hierarchies to achieve for students: (1) Indicate the features, applicable occasions, and limitations of quantitative analysis. (2) Identify quantitative research questions, collect and compile quantitative data, and operate quantitative analysis with standard explanation and comprehensive interpretation of results in scientific writing. (3) Apply quantitative analysis to mediate between theories of public affairs management and policy evaluation.
