Course syllabus
本課程教學大綱已提供完整英文資訊(本選項僅供統計使用,未提供完整英文資訊者,得免勾記)【Provide information of course syllabus in English.(This is for statistical use only. For those who do not provide information of course syllabus in English, do not check this field.)】
This course, the first half of the one-year-long statistics study, is the first quantitative class commonly required for students majoring on business management. It will, as anticipated, be the prerequisite for the other, advanced, quantitative studies in the various managerial areas. While it may be the only quantitative course to encounter for some students in the college years, all students will find it bear significant influences on courses dealing with empirical analysis, as well as on the real-world business practices in their career development. The course thus carries the undeniable mission to provide the basic skills of statistical analysis needed for business management purposes. In order to serve the purposes as depicted, the topics to cover in the course includes: descriptive data analysis, probability theory, random variables, discrete and continuous probability distributions, sampling distribution, interval estimation, hypothesis testing, two-population statistical inferences, comparing multiple proportions, tests of independence and goodness of fit. Homework exercise, written and/or computer software printout, is collected after each chapter is finished. In terms of exams, there will be one Mid-Term exam covering up to where the class progresses up to; and, the Final exam, which will cover all the material taught through out the semester.
Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide students with the introductory level statistical knowledge for which students need to do hand-written and/or computer software exercises on problems in each chapter. R language is to be taught, but not excluding others, as the primary statistics software used in the course. Students finished with the course will be equipped with knowledge and skills for building analytical frames for probabilistic thinking, statistical estimation, and hypothesis testing in the cases of business applications. The statistical knowledge learned from the course will arm them with quantitative capabilities not only to conduct academic communications but also to proceed in their life-long pursuit of business management career, probably enabling them to establish basis for critical thinking of statistics issues.
