課程大綱 Course syllabus

This course aims to present students a general overview of the conflicting debates the subject of the environment has generated amongst business corporations, political groups, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and influential individuals.
Against this backdrop, how some influential corporations have attempted to embrace the spirit of environmentalism is examined. Thus, embodying the possibilities of engaging and profitably benefiting from the urgent and alarming global call to broadly put into effect environmental consciousness



課程目標 Objectives

         - To underline the fundamental principles of business priorities within the restrictions and
opportunities (with a climate change lens) implemented in liberal democratic institutions
- Clearly assess how the meaning of ‘sustainability’ as a buzzword can be reinterpreted and
reconfigured in order to galvanise as well as defend corporate strategies
- Able to explore ideas, articulate and support convincing arguments


授課方式 Teaching methods

         In case classes are suspended due to the decisions of university and government authorities, in order to avoid potential collective ‘Coronovirus’ infections; the remaining part of the course will be organized and assessed – following the following methods:
• Lectures 6, 7 and 9: Powerpoint slides will be delivered online. The readings will be available days before the online lecture. Group presentations will be expected to provide a written summary (not more than 1,000 words) of the 3 lectures.
• The previous Mid-Term Exam will be an assignment. You’ll select 1 of the 3 questions I’ll provide on 2nd May. The email with the attached assignment (not more than 2,000 words) needs to be received before 5pm on the 7th May.
• Lectures 11, 13 and 14: Powerpoint slides will be delivered online. The readings will be available days before the online lecture. Group presentations will be expected to provide a written summary (not more than 1,000 words) of the 3 lectures.
• Lecture 15: An online concluding discussion of the case study your group has selected for the group report.
• Lecture 16: No Group Presentation. It ‘ll be assessed on a Group Report (not more than 4,500 words).
