From 2020/04/09 we will move the class online and use the Zoom system. This requires students to log in (you will need a computer and internet connection) and watch the class online. The system allows you to participate in discussions during the class (using a microphone and camera on/or attached to your computer).
As the number of coronavirus infections continues to rise, I feel that it may be in everyone’s best interests (and a sensible preventative measure) to not sit together in a room for 3 hours each week. Sorry for any inconvenience - I know it is not ideal, but my goal is to protect everyone from any unnecessary risks.

This course is designed for David's Qualitative Thesis students - to supplement the supervision process and help develop specific knowledge and qualitative research skills (tailored to student needs).

課程目標 Objectives

         The purpose of this course is to support the qualitative thesis writing process. Through discussion, reflection, presentation and peer review, students will develop an understanding of how to: review academic literature; articulate and apply a philosophical approach; develop research ideas; formulate research questions & objectives; design a qualitative methodology; conduct (qualitative) data collection; thematically analyze (qualitative) data and draw conclusions.
The topics covered each week may vary, depending on the research progress made and specific student research needs. In general, the following will be discussed / covered during the semester:
The General structure will be as follows:
- Understanding why researchers do research – positivist and interpretivist research.
- Reviewing academic literature;
- Developing research ideas;
- Formulating research questions & objectives;
- Designing a methodology;
- Conducting (qualitative) data collection;
- Thematically analyzing (qualitative) data
- Discussing Data and Forming Conclusions.

授課方式 Teaching methods

         A weekly 3 hour meeting will take place. During the meeting progress will be reviewed and the evolution of students' work will be discussed. Small group discussion and peer review process will allow students to develop detailed understanding of the thesis writing process and practical issues.
Assessment will take place during the semester.
