課程大綱 Course syllabus

This course examines all relevant aspects of the business environment in the Asia Pacific region. This includes the political, legal, economic, and financial environment. It also pays close attention to the differences in culture among Asia Pacific countries.

課程目標 Objectives

         The objective is to provide a detailed picture of the countries in this region as well as to give insights into relevant aspects and determinants of conducting business in those countries. The course also aims at providing insights into the business relationships among the Asia Pacific economies and trace the patterns and trends in international trade and investment within the region. It equips students with conceptual understanding, managerial implications, and practical knowledge in international business issues in the context of the Asia Pacific region.

授課方式 Teaching methods

         Lectures provided during the class
 The instructor presents, explains, and analyzes principles and concepts. Interactive teaching
 The students are encouraged to actively participate in the class and ask questions and even interrupt the lecturing of the instructor in order to ask a question, comment on a relevant issue, or provide an idea.
 The instructor raises questions, issues, or ideas (related to a topic of the ongoing lecturing) to be discussed between the instructor and the students (either individually or as a group).
 The instructor provides case studies and/or hypothetical scenarios for students to work on in the class as a group assignment which will be discussed between the instructor and each group and/or between groups.
Assignments
 The instructor will provide assignments which students are required to do as a group either in-class and/or at home.

         As various aspects pertaining to Asia Pacific business are examined, the course
draws on several sources. It uses selected chapters from the following textbooks:
 Charles Hill; Tomas Hult, Global Business Today, 9th Edition (2016)
McGraw-Hill Education.
 Michael Backman, The Asian Insider: UNCONVENTIONAL WISDOM FOR
ASIAN BUSINESS, Palgrave Macmillan.
 Delios and Beamish - International Business: An Asia Pacific Perspective,
2nd Edition, Pearson Education.
Other materials such as reports (e.g. ASIA-PACIFIC TRADE AND INVESTMENT REPORT 2017) and online sources (e.g. asean.org and www.adb.org) are also used.
