Harvard Business Review rated "communication skills" is more important than ambition, education, and capacity for hard work. Students will need good English speaking skills at university to: 1) Engage actively in seminar discussions. 2) Give presentation at a seminar. 3) Network effectively at research events 4) Communicate with others both socially and professionally in student exchange programs 5) Socialize with international students at the campus 6) Attend a job interview in English. Therefore, we design this course for students to practice the interpersonal and oral academic communication competencies to achieving success in their current academic community in higher education and future career. This is a practical course that motivates intermediate students to speak effectively and confidently in English. This course features: 1) Varied speech genres ranging from personal stories, informative, demonstration, persuasive ceremonial speeches, and conference research presentations. 2) Speech projects also include interviews and group discussion. 3) Pronunciation sections encourage spoken accuracy and fluency. 4) The speech-writing process is clearly outlined with step-by-step guidelines. 5) Fun communicative activities will engage students. The expectations to the students are as follows: 1) Attend class regularly, missing no more than 10% for any reason. 2) Prepare a three-ring learning portfolio to collect your work samples. Three components including reflection, documentation, and collaboration will help you focus on deep learning. 3) Prepare and present the assignment for each week. 4) Submit a TYPED speech draft on the presentation prior to delivering it. 5) Review and complete a self-evaluation form as homework after each presentation. 6) Be a cooperative and attentive audience member when others are presenting.
