types of discourse: multimodal, advertising, and media ideational meaning: transitivity interpersonal meaning: modality and attitude textual meaning: cohesion and theme verbal art, creativity and discourse narrative vs non-narrative mode speech-writing differences and interplay linguistic metaphor vs conceptual metaphor

課程目標 Objectives |
|
This course has three major objectives. It aims to help the student (1) understand the key concepts of discourse and discourse analysis. (2) raise his/her awareness of the linguistic construction of a variety of texts and text-types and cultivate the student's sensitivity to style. (3) develop the ability to describe clearly and analyze effectively the structures and styles of talks and texts.
